The Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) seeks to appoint a confident and positive leader as General Manager School Leadership and Quality Teaching to lead national education reforms across Australia. This is an exciting time in education, with the opportunity to build on significant achievements already made across the sector.

As part of the Executive Leadership team reporting to the CEO, the General Manager School Leadership and Quality Teaching will rigorously promote excellence in teaching, school leadership and teacher education, and will inspire a shared sense of purpose across multi-jurisdictional stakeholder groups. Equipped with experience and credibility as an educator, most likely as a principal or senior level teacher, the appointee will possess a comprehensive understanding of the profession and a demonstrated capability in developing and implementing policy initiatives of significant scale and impact.

The successful candidate will have exemplary stakeholder relationship skills, a collegiate interpersonal style and a positive and agile approach to resolution, complemented by sound judgement, intellectual rigour, tenacity and resilience.

Presenting with an exceptional commitment to quality outcomes, the appointee will demonstrate an impressive strategic perspective and an ability to quickly grasp issues, provide high-level policy advice and partner with multidisciplinary leaders. This is a Melbourne-based role that will have influence and positive impact nationwide.

AITSL was established by the Australian Government to provide national leadership in promoting excellence so that teachers and school leaders have the maximum impact on student learning in all Australian schools. The organisation plays a key role in leading significant national educational reform. AITSL is part of, and operates within, the national education architecture and has a national remit to work with the education community in all states and territories, systems and sectors.
