Why focus on professional experience?

Fulfilling and rewarding professional experience placements are critical to the success of pre-service teachers as they prepare themselves to enter the teaching profession. Pre-service teachers also identify their in-school experience as one of the most valuable learning experiences of their initial teacher education program.

What have we done?

AITSL has worked closely with its stakeholders to ensure the key components of quality placements are a requirement of initial teacher education program accreditation, including:

- strong and sustained school/ITE provider partnerships
- communication across all placements
- quality in-school experiences
- rigorous pre-service teacher assessment.

We have also developed a host of resources to support partnerships between schools and initial education providers when delivering quality placements.
