Engaging with technology

The teacher describes how information and communication technology has enabled her to transform the ways of learning in her classroom. The introduction of, and use of ICT, has increased the options available to meet the specific learning needs of students across a wide range of abilities. In the illustration, the teacher models how learning technologies can be used for demonstration purposes, to focus question and answering, to assign tasks, for individual and group work, and to create and present multimodal texts within the English curriculum.

St Saviour’s Primary School in Toowoomba, Queensland caters for over 400 students from Prep to year 7. The school’s year 1 class has 28 students from a range of backgrounds with a number of learning needs. The teacher describes how she is working with students in the class within a transformed learning space. At the beginning of the year, the school introduced interactive whiteboards and notebook computers into classrooms. The learning space allows for differentiated learning where students can work individually or in groups to meet outcomes relevant to the designated curriculum.
