High-frequency words

Here an expert literacy practitioner works with a prep class at Wyndham Park Primary School. She uses a reading workshop to model the teaching of high-frequency words. A number of teaching strategies and resources are used including whole class teaching using a Big Book. She models the benefits of working with small groups based on ability that are provided extension and support activities relating to the learning goals.

At Wyndham Park Primary School, the Principal and leadership team support high quality professional learning opportunities for colleagues. One strategy involves expert mentoring to improve student learning in literacy. Classroom teachers are given the opportunity to observe the mentor working in a classroom environment. The school was established in 2011. Its over 300 students are drawn from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
